Homemade pita bread

Enough for 10 pitas.

You can double the recipe if you wish.

Ingredients:

  • 4 cups all-purpose flour

  • 2 tablespoons of active dry yeast

  • 1½ cups warm water

  • 2 tablespoons of olive oil

  • 1 tablespoon of sugar

  • 1 tablespoon of salt

Instructions:

  1. Mix the yeast, sugar and warm water, let it rest for 15 minutes.

  2. In a large bowl, mix the flour with the salt. Add the olive oil and yeast mixture and knead by hand for 6 minutes. If the dough is too sticky, you can add more flour.

  3. Place the dough in a greased bowl and let it rest for 2 hours in a warm place.

  4. Turn the dough out onto a lightly floured surface, gently press out the air, and divide into 10 equal pieces.

  5. Bake for 12-14 minutes or pan-broil for 4 minutes per side, or until tender.
