OAP Beef Cholent

  • INGREDIENTS: ADDITIONAL MATERIALS 7 x 3 inch / 18 x 9 cm round pan with tight-fitting lid

  • Non-stick vegetable spray

  • 1/2 cup short grain brown rice or barley (gluten-free), divided

  • 1/2 cup cholent bean mix, divided

  • 2 large potatoes, peeled and cut into 3-inch / 8-cm chunks, divided

  • 1 1/2 pounds / 1 kilo cholent or stew meat

  • 1 lb/0.5 kg kishke (can be gluten-free), completely unwrapped

  • 1/2 cup onion soup mix and tomato sauce, to taste (optional) Preparation :


  • Spray a round pan and lid with nonstick cooking spray.

  • Add 1/4 cup barley/rice, 1/4 cup cholent bean mix, and half of the potatoes to the 7-inch skillet.

  • Place all the meat on top of the barley/rice, beans and potatoes.

  • Top the meat with the remaining potatoes, beans and barley/rice.

  • Place the unwrapped kishke on top of the beans.

  • Cover the pan tightly with the greased lid.

  • Place a rack with handles on the bottom of the OAP. Carefully place the round pan on the rack and gently pour the added water around the pan. The water should reach two-thirds of the way up the sealed pan.

  • Close the lid and set the OAP mode to slow cook, low heat, with the cooking time set to approximately 4 hours before you plan to use Cholent (see tip) • WATER ADDED 4 cups of water or enough water to come 2/3 full of the pan on the rack

  • When the OAP is off, remove the Cholent and serve it hot.
